Holy Week Proclamation in Sermon and Song

Join Princeton Theological Seminary faculty, staff, and students in the Pacific Northwest for a conference devoted to preparing for Holy Week services. Through plenary sessions, worship, and workshops we will explore the theologies of the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus as these come to expression through preaching, song and liturgy. Join us Friday only, Saturday only, or both days.
On Friday we will focus on the Maundy Thursday and Good Friday gospel narratives and collaborate together in creating liturgical resources. Sessions will be led by Gerald Liu, Martin Tel, and the Princeton Seminary Touring Choir. Come ready for engaging presentations, singing, collaborative preparation, enactment of liturgy, and working groups. The day concludes with an evening service which explores the meaning of Christ’s suffering and death through song and proclamation.
Saturday morning will begin with the plenary Timbres from the Tomb. Join Martin Tel and Gerald Liu as they discuss possibilities for expressing the gravity of Holy Saturday through music and proclamation. Along with singing from the touring choir, they will demonstrate how silence, song, and female-authored liturgy and proclamation (Mary and Mary were the first to bear witness to the emptiness that led to Easter celebration) can punctuate the death of Jesus with extraordinary depth and range. Participants will then take part in two workshops designed for pastors, musicians, worship planners, educators, and those who work particularly with youth and young adults.
